Captain America Throws Potter Out Of The Top Spot

Captain America Opening Weekend

Another strong showing for one of Marvel’s heroes, during his first weekend at the box office Captain America brought in $65,827,000 knocking the heavily front-loaded Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 down to number 2 with $48 million, a steep 72% drop off from the film’s opening weekend.

Friends with Benefits brought in a respectable $18.5 million for the R rated comedy, with Transformers 3 and Horrible Bosses filling up the rest of the top 5.

This should make The Avengers a lock for hit status, with Marvel seemingly able to rely on it’s entire roster of superheroes to bring in at least good numbers, unlike DC with it’s stable of much less relatable invincible men.
