The classic children’s animated masterpiece The Lion King continues to dominate at the box office, as it should. Perhaps if studios weren’t so quick to throw away their greatest films on the trash heap of history the business of movies wouldn’t be in the self destructive death spiral it finds itself in today.
As noted The Lion King once again took the top spot in theaters this weekend adding another ~$22 million to its total, the animated re-release was followed closely by the Brad Pitt baseball flick with $20 million, and the family pandering Dolphin Tale also with about $20 million in ticket sales.
Beneath the big numbers of the top 3 Twilight star Buff Wolf Guy’s film Abduction was an unmitigated bomb with ts debut total of just $11.2 million, and direct to DVD quality action title Killer Elite brought in a meager $9.5 million just one seventh of its reported budget.
In cool indy movie news Drive continues to drop, this week to number seven, adding anoth $5+ million to its total returns, having already made its budget back.
